From May until September, DSMEE will provide
free miniature train rides for children from 2pm until 4pm, weather permitting. We will be running every Saturday
except for the second Sunday of every month. Please see the events calendar below and on our

DSMEE Open Day
(posted 07/08/2025)
On August 24th, DSMEE will be hosting its annual open day. Free rides on miniature railway for all ages, and an opportunity to visit the workshop and facilities of the Dublin Society of Model and Experimental Engineers. This year DSMEE is celebrating 124 years of existence, making it the second oldest model engineering society in the world. A number of locomotives, including steam engines built by members, will be in operation or on display
Our open day is the only day of the year where we give train rides to adult members of the public. DSMEE is a blend of miniature engineering, maker-space and men's shed and is always open to new members. The open day is an opportunity for members of the public to see what we get up to and see if it something they would like to get involved in. The entrance to the Society's site is at ///quarrel.ozone.obey
This event takes place during heritage week. A link to the heritage council event can be found here.

Rules of the Rides
(valid for 2025)
- Please note that for Health and Safety reasons, there is a strict height requirement of one metre (~three feet). Children should also be three years of age or older. Personnel on duty at the station will check to see whether or not your child is tall enough to ride.
- Only children who can board trains unaided will be allowed ride.
- The wearing of cycling helmets or roller-skates on the trains is not permitted.
- Taking personal items like food, teddies or toys is also not allowed due to the risk of children dropping them while the train is moving.
- Parents or guardians of children with special needs should talk to the DSMEE members on duty at the station before their children travel on the trains.
- When the train is moving, riders must keep their feet on the carriage running boards. They must not lean out or try to reach for objects along the line.
- All trains carry a guard to supervise children and to ensure they are behaving safely. The guard can and will stop the train if children are not behaving safely. DSMEE reserves the right to refuse to carry children who cannot ride in a safe manner.
- We do not carry babies-in-arms under any circumstances.
