The Society’s railway is located within the grounds of Marlay Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16. This is a 300 acre public park operated by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. Further information on the Park can be found here:
The Park is located just north of the M50 motorway, close to Junction 13. The main entrance to the Park is on the Grange Road (R113) where there is a car park inside the entrance, close to Marlay House. From there, it is a walk of 800 metres to the railway. From the car park, walk along the pathway, keeping Marlay House on your right and the large open green area on your left. Continue past the café on your right, keeping the green area on your left and the trees on your right. After roughly 450 meters there is an opening to the right and a signpost indicating Laurelmere Cottage (Teachin Laurelmere) and Playground (Clos Sugartha). Turn right here and follow the path straight through an intersection. After passing Laurelmere Cottage on your left, you come to a narrow gateway. Passing through the gateway turn left. The park depot should be on your right. Beware of traffic as you are now on a park service road. Follow the road around for a further 250 metres and the railway is on your right.
There is a secondary entrance to the Park on College Road, located on the south boundary of the Park. On entering the park, there is car park on the right. From here it is a walk of 180 metres down the hill. Continue down the hill towards the Marlay putting green. Turn right along the lane here and the railway is another 130 metres on the left.
Dublin Bus route 16 (Dublin Airport to Ballinteer) serves Grange Road and there is a stop (No. 2970) near the main entrance. At the stop, walk 75 metres westward (uphill) and the Park entrance is opposite a signpost indicating “Marlay Demesne”.
The 16, S8, 74, 14, 14c, 116, 161 all have stops at or less than one kilometre from Marlay Park.
The nearest LUAS stop is Balally on the Green Line. It is just over a 2 km walk from the LUAS Station to the Marlay Park Entrance. This takes about 40 minutes at a brisk pace.
There are bike racks at the Grange Road pedestrian entrance and at the bottom of the College Road hill entrance, opposite the playground.
There are pedestrian entrances to the park on the north, east and south edges of the park. There are two pedestrian entrances about 125 metres to the west and east of the Grange Road car park entrance. There is a pedestrian entrance on the east edge of the park, just south of the junction between Grange Road and Brehon Field Road. There is another pedestrian entrance at the southeast corner of the park, at the junction between Grange Road, College Road, and Harold's Grange Road.
